Sammy Jo

Sammy Jo's Story- 9-22-2020 at 5 o'clock in the evening, Calvin, got an email about 2 sick dogs in need of care (one male- Kola, one female- Lucy).

Calvin loaded up the crates and set out on a 70 mile round trip. Upon arrival the owner decided to surrender the two. Both infected with mange and Lucy obviously pregnant. Calvin returned to the shelter, where he quarantined the pair until proper medications were administered by the vet.

As things were looking good for the next three days. On 9-25-2020 things took a turn for the worst. About 6;30 in the evening the mama started barking, so Calvin went to go check on her. Upon entering the quarantine room he noticed little Sammi Jo on the floor, still covered in blood and placenta still attached.

as Calvin noticed the puppy on the floor, he quickly realized she was barking at the pup! Upon observing for several minutes, Calvin realized she did not want anything to do with little Sammy Jo. Lucy had no interest at all! in her crying baby. Without luck in getting Lucy to take her baby, calvin cut the umbilical cord and wiped little Sammy Jo clean. Calvin begin his quest on gathering formula and bottles for little Sammy Jo.

With the help of friends and family, Calvin was able to secure the proper resources to care for such a newborn.

In situations like this, we take things hour by hour, day by day. As of now little Sammy Jo is doing fine in the arms of his new mama, his foster mama...

Keep an eye out for updates on this little guy!
